This weekend, we celebrated International Primate Day (the next 1st of September) in advance at three zoological institutions. They gave us a space to raise awareness, share information and get donations for the CRPL, Lwiro Primates, in DR Congo.
On Saturday, we were at the Zoobotánico Jerez, where we had a stand, educational talks and colouring activities for children. Saturday and Sunday at the Zoo Aquarium in Madrid, we distributed information in the area near the chimpanzees. At the Barcelona Zoo, there was a T‑shirt workshop and storytelling the whole weekend. It has been a great success, and although exhausting, our volunteer team is very pleased with the work done.
At SOS Primates we always say that our volunteers are our greatest gift, and the truth is that 90% of them are women. From Jerez de la Frontera we thank María José, Susana and Luis. From Madrid to María, Natalia and Almu. And from Barcelona to Monica, Anna, Estefanía, Sandra, Yuri, Actinea, Raúl, Maria, Marc and Èlia.
Some of the activities for this weekend are storytelling, a workshop to make your own T‑shirt in Barcelona, and an informative talk in Jerez. See you there!
And, of course, to the heads of the institutions that have made it possible in these three cities. We hope that next year there will be more institutions, and we will be able to add primate rehabilitation centres and sanctuaries to this celebration.
The primates of Lwiro, including Jina, thank you for this effort, as all the money raised will be used to feed more than 200 orphaned primates at the centre.
