The last December, nine people from SOS Primates visited Uganda on a natural tour to see the main national parks (Murchison Falls, Kibale, Queen Elisabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Lake Mburo) and reserves ( like the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary) of the African country.
They could witness marvelous species, like mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, leopards, lions, black cobras, and many bird
species (like the shoebill).
The group also visited the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is a member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA).
It shelters 52 chimpanzees in an isle on Lake Victoria. Two of the members of the expedition organized by Dinka Travel work in the Barcelona Zoo as caretakers while at the same time, they belong to the SOS Primates Board. That’s why they organized the delivery of 157’6 kilograms of work equipment granted by the Barcelona Zoo to the staff of the primate sanctuary.
It didn’t cost anything to our NGO, because baggage permitted by international flights was employed, which was later reclaimed by the staff of the sanctuary when we arrived at the airport. After a great amount of work, it was exciting when we visited the sanctuary and were received by the uniformed workers days later, as you can see in the photos.
Thank you to all who were involved, especially the SOS Primates volunteers, that dedicate huge effort each day to help the primates in an altruistic manner.
Currently, we’re making deals to send 1 pallet of uniforms to Malawi next March. We’d like to do it because of the annual meeting of the PASA members to help African primate centers.
We need your help, so if you’d like more information on this project or on how to help us, you can write to info@sosprimates.org
