In the past month of June, a collaborator of SOS Primates, Cristina Fernández, began volunteering work for 3 months at the Amazon Rescue Center — CREA, at the Loreto department, near Iquitos, Perú.

Said center has liberated since its creation in 2007 more than 10.000 animals which arrive at the center due to many reasons, like the loss of habitat, collision with cars, electrocution with electric cables, or their mother’s death at the hands of poachers.

Some of the species sheltered there and which have been liberated are birds, reptiles, or amphibians, but also mammals like sloths, manatees, pink dolphins, or primates.

Other labors we organize from SOS Primates are the organization and delivery of material conceded by the Barcelona Zoo, which donates disused uniforms to the fauna recovery centers.

That’s why we contacted Cristina, who was heading to Barcelona to cooperate with the Amazon wild fauna and could finally transport 20kg of work equipment to the caregivers and the rest of the staff of the CREA. In the photos, you can see some of the workers with uniforms doing tasks like giving feeding bottles to the small orphan manatees.

Thank you to all of the involved (the Barcelona Zoo and CREA, in concrete to its general coordinator Juan Sánchez Babilonia, Guillem Chacon, and of course, Cristina) and especially all of the volunteers of SOSPrimates who make an effort each day to help not only primates but also all of the animals that they can in an altruistic manner.

If you travel to one of the countries where there are centers for primates or other animals and you would like to help, don’t hesitate to contact us so we can organize a delivery for your trip.
