Last Friday, we attended an event in Barcelona celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone. It was a very inspiring evening during which funds were raised for the more than 100 orphaned chimpanzees cared for at the sanctuary, where they receive a second chance and exceptional care.
The project not only helps primates but also supports the surrounding communities, works to protect natural habitats, and contributes to the creation of national parks, while also running a successful environmental education program.
The founder and director of the sanctuary, Bala Amarasekaran, presented the work of the center and thanked everyone for their support. He also shared a few words about the SOS Primates team and our continued support for Tacugama. During the event, our association presented him with a T‑shirt, as seen in the photo, handed to him by Laia Dotras and Raúl Cabrera, co-founders of SOS Primates.
In the second photo, they appear alongside primatologists Olga Feliu, Rosa Garriga, and Tatyana Humle.
Thank you to the @Associació Amics de Tacugama for such a meaningful evening in support of primates.
