Tomorrow, July 14th, marks #WorldChimpanzeeDay, a date proposed by the Jane Goodall Institute to raise awareness and promote the protection of this remarkable species.
At SOS Primates, much of our work focuses on supporting chimpanzees, particularly the 129 chimpanzees living at the Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Centre (CRPL), Lwiro Primates, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As in any hospital or zoological institution, not all animals that arrive in poor condition survive. Sadly, Dungu was one of those who could not recover from the injuries caused by his capture, illness, and the trauma of losing his family. We honor his memory with this photograph.
To continue supporting CRPL, we were at the Zoo-Aquarium Madrid yesterday with an information stand where visitors could make donations to help provide food for the animals.
We would like to thank everyone who came to support us, as well as the Zoo-Aquarium staff from departments including Marketing, Management, Administration and Conservation. We would also like to especially thank our volunteer team, who are our greatest treasure and made everything possible: María, Natalia, Mar, and Jorge.
