As we have explained on numerous occasions, the purpose of SOS Primates’ creation was to support the CRPL, in the DRCongo, which is where we destine most of our help. That does not mean that we don’t contribute to other zones of the world, where other species of primates require our service.

This week we donated 5025’29 €  to the Orangutan Foundation (OF). The fund was gathered through our campaign ‘Este año colaboramos con…’ which integrates the donations from the calendars, the Christmas lottery, and the SOSlidary raffles.

The OF has worked to protect the 3 orangutan species as well as their habitats in Borneo and Sumatra for more than 30 years, besides promoting environmental education and assistance to local communities.

They are very happy with the result, as are we, and they will utilize these funds for a transportation cage, which is crucial to carrying orangutans and other wildlife after rescuing and liberating them to their new place.

The current transportation cage is deteriorated, old, and small for their needs. They will also buy many camera trap units to track orangutans and the other species that share their habitat.

In fact, thanks to the camera traps, exemplars of clouded leopards in the study area were reported.

In 2005 our president, Raúl Cabrera, completed a training course in Borneo and participated in the liberation of various orangutans. It undoubtedly was an outstanding experience, as you can see in the photos.

You can find more information on the OF on the website://www.orangutan.org.uk/

From SOS Primates we thank all of you who have helped us, especially our team of volunteers, who were involved in the achievement of this magnificent outcome, as well as all of you who have made it possible ❤️
