We have received sad news from CRPL, Lwiro Primates, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The war continues to advance and shows no sign of ending. In fact, the situation is worsening, as the area surrounding the Lwiro Centre is becoming a battlefield. The nearby village where food for the animals is purchased is under constant fire. Most of the CRPL staff live there and are being forced to leave their homes. Despite this, they continue to travel to the center every day to care for the animals.
They are showing extraordinary courage, compassion, and dedication in continuing to look after more than 200 primates, including chimpanzees and other species, as well as the other animals at the center. It is impossible to ignore that the animals are also suffering from the noise and fear caused by the sounds of weapons and explosions.
At SOS Primates, we send our admiration and support to the CRPL team and all our strength during this difficult time.
Now more than ever, we need your support. Thank you to those who are already part of SOS Primates and to those who continue to ask about the situation there.
It is a heartbreaking reality: people, animals, and nature are all suffering… and ultimately, the cause is human greed and pride.
We call for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
