Last May, David Maprum­be, a pri­ma­te care­gi­ver from the West Afri­can Pri­ma­te Con­ser­va­tion Action (WAPCA) in Gha­na, retur­ned home after taking part in a pro­fes­sio­nal exchan­ge and trai­ning pro­gram­me at seve­ral zoo­lo­gi­cal ins­ti­tu­tions that care for pri­ma­tes, inclu­ding Bar­ce­lo­na Zoo.

On his jour­ney back to Gha­na, David trans­por­ted 19.6 kg of dona­ted equip­ment for the care­gi­vers wor­king at WAPCA.

WAPCA is a con­ser­va­tion orga­ni­za­tion ope­ra­ting in Gha­na and Côte d’I­voi­re, dedi­ca­ted to pro­tec­ting endan­ge­red West Afri­can pri­ma­tes through edu­ca­tion, research, com­mu­nity enga­ge­ment, and bree­ding pro­gram­mes in pro­tec­ted reserves.

The orga­ni­za­tion was foun­ded by Hei­del­berg Zoo in Ger­many and is sup­por­ted by seve­ral Euro­pean ins­ti­tu­tions, inclu­ding Bar­ce­lo­na Zoo, which coor­di­na­tes the Euro­pean con­ser­va­tion pro­gram­me for one of WAP­CA’s flagship spe­cies, the whi­te-crow­ned mangabey.

SOS Pri­ma­tes coor­di­na­tes the dis­tri­bu­tion of dona­ted work equip­ment pro­vi­ded by Bar­ce­lo­na Zoo, inclu­ding used uni­forms and pro­tec­ti­ve clothing for wild­li­fe res­cue and reha­bi­li­ta­tion cen­tres.
