A couple months ago SOS Primates sent 23kg of supplies donated by Zoo de Barcelona to Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue, a chimpanzee rescue centre located in Cameroon, in the remote jungle of Wall-Mbargue.

Their chimpanzees are orphans that, as Leilah in the picture, have been rescued from the illegal bushmeat trade (the adults are consumed and the offspring is sold illegally for the pet trade or trafficked to Asiatic zoos that do not adhere to international regulations).

At Sanaga Yong chimpanzees find refuge for life, where they are reunited with other conspecifics and where they receive excellent care. The centre works alongside national authorities on seizures, thanks to which the orphans have a home.

Currently housing 78 chimpanzees of ages 2 to over 50 years old. In addition they undertake conservation projects, education and help the local communities.

You can find further information about Sanaga Yong on their website https://www.sychimprescue.org/

The supplies donated by the zoo and managed by SOS Primates was sent through a collaborator that was travelling to Paris, and offered a great help to the centre’s workers. In the pictures, the team poses for a group picture and different scenes of them undertaking their crucial task for the chimpanzee wellbeing.

If you know of any centre that could be interested or if you are planning to travel to any country and you would like to help us by taking supplies, you can contact us at info@sosprimates.org

We would like to extend our gratitude to Sanaga Yong for their kindness, to Gregg Tully for their help with management, and to Zoo de Barcelona for their donation, and our volunteers for making our work possible.
