As you know, the main reason for founding SOS Primates was to help Lwiro Primates, as two of the founders had worked with this centre.

Last year we achieved our goal of helping other primate rehabilitation centres, as their conservation is a global issue. Our first step was dedicating the 2021 SOS Primates Calendar to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone, who are struggling during the pandemic due to the cancellation of their activities (guided tours, ecolodge, volunteer placements, among others), which help them to raise donations covering more than 50% of the centre’s costs.

In this incredibly difficult year we distributed a record number of calendars: 417 (thanks to the support of the Associació Amics de Tacugama, AAT) raising a total of € 1813.68 for the TCS, which will greatly help to feed the 96 chimpanzees living there.

We don’t want to end this without thanking all the people who have helped us to distribute the calendar. We won’t name names for fear of forgetting someone, but they range from Barcelona to Madrid, Valencia, Tenerife, Granada, Cantabria and Soria. And many thanks also to the TCS and the AAT for their faith in us.

We’re already deciding the next primate sanctuary we’re going to support with the 2022 calendar. We hope we can count on your support.
