Many of you have asked us if the eruption of the Nyaragongo volcano is affecting Lwiro. We can tell you that the city which has been affected, Goma (capital of the North Kiva province) is separated from Lwiro Primates and Bukavu (capital of South Kiva province) by Lake Kivu. As a result, the centre has not been affected, as you can see in this incredible bird’s‑eye view photo.
However, SOS Primates sends our condolences and support to the families who have been affected by this volcanic eruption.
