The Democratic Republic of Congo continues to face political and social instability. In South Kivu province, where CRPL, Lwiro Primates is located, near the city of Bukavu, armed conflict is ongoing. Control over valuable minerals such as coltan, which is found in the mobile phones, tablets and laptops we all use, is one of the underlying factors.

Wildlife and ecosystems are often the silent victims of human conflict. Countless wild animals are at risk during times like these. Although the primates at CRPL remain safe thanks to the dedication of the Lwiro team, the centre is facing serious challenges: closed roads, supply shortages, frozen bank access, violence in the streets and ongoing insecurity.

Our thoughts are with the local communities and the animals, including this infant who never made it to Lwiro and never had the chance to receive a name or a second chance.

At SOS Primates, we hope peace returns as soon as possible.

Help us continue helping them.
