Our SOS Primates colleagues were at Zoo-Aquarium Madrid sharing information about primates and the threats they face, while also collecting donations for CRPL, Lwiro Primates, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In recent times, the center has been affected by ongoing conflict in the region, where not only humans suffer the consequences. War leads to the destruction of primate habitats and increases the consumption of bushmeat by armed groups operating in the forest.
September 1st marks International Primate Day.
In the photos, you can see Kitutu, a young orphaned red-tailed monkey who arrived at CRPL some time ago in a cage made of vines and branches by poachers, after being confiscated by authorities. Sadly, he did not survive to adulthood.
To help animals like him, our volunteers María, Marisa, Mar, and Aitana gave their time and energy. We are very grateful for their commitment. We also thank Zoo-Aquarium Madrid for supporting our work.
