SOS Pri­ma­tes invi­tes you to the con­fe­ren­ce “Cousins of chim­pan­zees and rela­ti­ves of Nean­derthals”. Gene­tics is one of the most power­ful tools to unders­tand our evo­lu­tio­nary suc­cess. Ques­tions such as: Who are we and why are we the only pri­ma­tes to have colo­ni­sed the enti­re pla­net? Are the­re human races? Do humans come from apes? What defi­nes us as humans? Why did the Nean­derthals disap­pear? Will the great apes disappear?

Tomàs Mar­ques is Direc­tor of the Ins­ti­tu­te of Evo­lu­tio­nary Bio­logy (UPF/CSIC) and prin­ci­pal inves­ti­ga­tor of the “Com­pa­ra­ti­ve Geno­mics” group. He holds a PhD from the UPF (Uni­ver­si­tat Pom­peu Fabra), has held a fellowship in the Uni­ted Sta­tes and currently leads his own group at the UPF. He was recently awar­ded the Howard Hughes Medi­cal Inves­ti­ga­tor Award.
