The past month of October, an SOS Primates’ collaborator, the primatologist Rosa Garriga, traveled to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary (TCS), in Sierra Leona, where she works on research tasks for chimpanzee conservation.

TCS shelters more than 100 chimpanzees that became orphans due to bushmeat consumption and offspring trafficking as pets, including Tom, in the photo.

Additionally, the center plays an important role in the education and awareness of the local community, therefore it has organized different censuses about the chimpanzee population and plenty of other actions. That’s why their role is key in the protection of this species.

You already know that from SOS Primates we manage the delivery of work material from the Barcelona Zoo, which donates disused uniforms to the wildlife recovery centers. It’s the reason why Rosa could carry 23 kg of work equipment offered by this zoo to the TCS staff.

In the photos, you can see some of the workers with uniforms performing tasks like feeding chimps.

Thank you to all of the individuals involved ( Barcelona Zoo, TCS, and of course, Rosa) and especially the volunteers of SOS Primates who are dedicated every day to helping primates in an altruistic way.

If you travel to one of the countries where there are primate or other animal centers and would like to assist, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can organize a delivery.
