In any ins­ti­tu­tion that hou­ses ani­mals, com­mu­ni­ca­tion among staff is extre­mely impor­tant, whether bet­ween kee­pers, vete­ri­na­rians, main­te­nan­ce, secu­rity, mana­gers, or others. A few months ago, the Bar­ce­lo­na Zoo dona­ted all of its inter­com equip­ment (wal­kie-tal­kies) to SOS Pri­ma­tes for tech­ni­cal and impro­ve­ment reasons. Our NGO found a second life for them at a pri­ma­te reha­bi­li­ta­tion cen­ter, and it was at the Tacu­ga­ma Chim­pan­zee Sanc­tuary whe­re they finally reached their des­ti­na­tion. In total, 75 inter­coms and their corres­pon­ding char­ging sta­tions were dona­ted. As you can see, the staff the­re is already using them, undoub­tedly impro­ving the care of the more than 100 orpha­ned chim­pan­zees hou­sed at the sanc­tuary in Sie­rra Leo­ne, vic­tims of the bush­meat tra­de and the traf­fic­king of infants as pets.
