As you know, SOS Primates manages unused uniforms and other work materials that the Zoo de Barcelona donates to wildlife recovery centers. Our most recent shipment was sent to the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust(CWOT), one of the oldest and largest chimpanzee sanctuaries in Zambia.

Established in 1938 by David and Sheila Siddle, Chimfunshi spans 10,000 hectares of stunning Miombo woodlands and wetlands (locally known as dambos) along the Upper Kafue River, home to an incredible variety of wildlife.

Yet, no species is immune to the threats caused by human consumption and habitat destruction due to increasing human populations.

The center currently provides a haven for 154 chimpanzees and 18 African grey parrots, which have been rescued and are rehabilitated in semi-free facilities.

As with all our shipments, we aim to minimize shipping costs; therefore, we worked a lot for this endeavor. We start by expressing our gratitude to Miguel Ángel Valdés from ZooTransWild (zootranswild@gmail.com), a company dedicated to carrying safely and professionally wild animals between zoological institutions. Miguel Ángel transported 46kg of uniforms to the Zoo of Les Sables d’Olonne in France, where they were handed over to its director, Sandrine Sihol.

Peggy Motsch, the director of CWOT, picked up the uniforms during a trip to France and brought them to Zambia

We want to thank everyone involved for their selfless contributions, especially María Laura Cordonet Castagneto, a collaborator with SOS Primates who completed her studies at CWOT and helped to organize.

In the photos, CWOT staff members, such as animal caregivers, prepare food and feed the primates housed at the center, the farm, security, and other workers.
