SOS Primates was initially established to support the CRPL, Lwiro Primates, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which remains the primary focus of our assistance. However, we recognize that primates face devastating challenges globally. Therefore, we organize a yearly campaign to support primates in need in other parts of the world. Our campaign ‘This Year We Collaborate With…’ achieved great success, raising €5,276.83 that has been donated to the Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project this week. The funds include donations collected through calendars, our Christmas lottery, and SOSolidarity raffles; they will be used to patrol and monitor the langurs and their protected areas, community efforts against poaching, and environmental education in local schools. With a population of fewer than 100 individuals, the Cat Ba langur is one of the most endangered primates and threatened animals on the planet. The entire population is confined to an island in northeastern Vietnam; over the past century, it has experienced a catastrophic decline due to human activity.

The Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project was established in the late 2000s to safeguard the biodiversity of the Cat Ba archipelago. Its efforts focus on conservation, education, anti-poaching patrols, reforestation, and legislation. The donation made by SOS Primates with the generous support of participants in our campaign will enhance the protection and monitoring of the langur population; it will also safeguard the island’s overall biodiversity through community anti-poaching initiatives. Additionally, it will promote environmental literacy among the island’s youth through a continuous education program desig

Need to ensure that the next generation possesses a greater understanding and respect for nature and biodiversity.
In 2017, our president, Raúl Cabrera, had the opportunity to visit the project with director Neahga Leonard. He remarked:‘It was great to see the Cat Ba langurs in the wild, but it was also disheartening to witness the threats looming over their habitat.’ At SOS Primates, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us, especially the team of volunteers from our NGO who played a vital role in achieving these remarkable results, and to all who made this possible.
